Animals are being tortured every day right in front of our eyes but either we are too busy to pay heed to these innocent’s lives or we unknowingly support them. We might think we are helping or being compassionate to these animals but the reality can be deceiving. Often when we go to temples in the south, we might come across tied elephants that bless the devotes but do pay heed to those chained legs and watery eyes that demand freedom.

Zoos, aquatic zones, and so many places use animals as a form of entertainment that is extremely degrading to their way of life and we as people support them unknowingly in this. Impaac presents an awareness blog about the various cruelties animals face on an everyday basis and how we unknowingly become a part of this.

Animal cruelty practices around the world that we unknowingly support:

  • Elephant rides

Elephant rides are a pretty common site in various parts of India as well as the world, and many people whether young or old love riding them. However, beneath the friendly animals what we don’t see is the kind of torture that they go through to become efficient to carry humans and load on their backs. These elephants are separated from their families as babies and beaten with bullhooks so that they fear the trainers and obey them. These animals are kept in captivity provided with little food and water and made to work in adverse climatic conditions for long hours. Researchers have found that these elephants can develop PTSD as well. So, the next time you go to visit a place and find elephant rides, do not take part in the cruel activity, instead, feed them something or give some gentle on its head.

  • Advertisements and tv shows

Animals are also used in advertisements and tv shows, although we see a warning saying no animals are harmed it is hard to train them without beating so there is a high chance that the animals have been tortured to act in front of the camera. Also, they have been deprived of their natural habitat and forced to stay in a man-made environment.

  • Animal sports

Animal sports are quite prevalent in India and around the world, sports such as bullfighting, hunting, polo, rodeos, organized animal fighting, the bull festival in Spain, etc. These show us the height of animal cruelty as these animals are captivated, fed little food, and given drugs for aggressiveness on the field. Animal fighting contests usually end in the loser losing his while the winning animal gets scarred physically and mentally.

  • Circus and zoos

Circus and zoos have been a recreational activity for youngsters, although many people know about the horrors that go behind the screens, they still be a part of it to appease their young ones. These animals are also snatched from their families at a young age to make them fit to be a part of the circus. The animals are trained to stand on their legs that damage their spinal cords and heavy animals like elephants develop arthritis in their joints. Zoos keep animals away from their natural habitat and put them into a small enclosure that is surrounded by humans all the while. They are lonely with no other animal to accompany them and often die because of it. All of them have shown reduced lifespan because of the multiple factors stated above.

This blog had only one aim that is to open your eyes and prevent you from indulging in any form of animal entertainment. Although many animal organizations have tried to ban inhumane practices, they are still prevalent in different parts of India under religious garb.

Impaac believes in helping these animals to survive in their own habitat surrounded by their family.
