The Story Of Saalumarada Thimakka

While we continue to hamper the environment for our personal benefits there are very few who attempt to reverse the drastic consequences that human actions have on the environment. Out of these few environmentalists is Salumarrada Thimakka who is on a one-woman mission to convert her surroundings into a green abode for everyone to rest at and experience the uniqueness of nature. She started the initiative with her late husband and is now an inspiration for the people who are bothered and dare to dream to change the world. While many of us would disregard the need to get their hands in the mud and pave the way for others to join in, Saalumarada ji took this initiative when none could even dream about it.

Salumarrada Thimmaka is an avid environmentalist from Karnataka who has dedicated her life to plant and sustain trees for a better future for everybody. She is better noted for her work along the highway between Hulikal and Kudur where she planted close to 400 banyan trees as well as 8000 more in and around her village and surroundings. Both husband and wife used to travel 4 kilometres everyday to plant and nurture their little saplings, they used to manage them using whatever meagre resources they had. These saplings were like kids to them as they never had their own as Thimmakkas sacrificed and used everything they had to take care of these saplings that would soon grow up to be luscious trees that provided fruits and flowers to everyone. Her work has been honoured with the National Citizen’s Award of India. Her work was recognised by the Government of India and she was conferred with Padma Shri in 2019.

Digital Sustainability

Climate change and environmental degradation are one of the most oppressing problems in today’s times that might become a huge concern for the future generations. Digital sustainability is one solution to the problem that aims to use technology to reduce our carbon footprint and use it for ecological benefits that help the environment. Many organisations and businesses are switching to eco – aware tactics that do not harm the environment in the long run while also contributing towards its conservation and betterment. It addresses everyday climate issues while also improving environmental, social and governance (ESG) outcomes.

People are usually hesitant to offer time and money to spend for the greater good but, Technology driven eco projects have seen a huge influx as people remotely can now offer solutions and also act upon them while being in the comfort of their homes. As a growing economy, we see a huge no. of new business ventures pop up that use a lot of resources to reach the end consumer, however, digital platforms have condensed the process while also reducing or nullifying the extra resources that used to cause pollution and harm the environment. As everything is becoming more and more dependent on technology, it is important to note that carbon emissions are also at its max that can impact the environment in a bad way.

Here are some ways in which Digital Sustainability benefits us:
• The use of paper and ink has been brought drastically, that will ensure that we pollute less.
• It helps in `maintaining a circular economy
• They can be used to monitor pollution levels and take action against it
• We get access to data that helps us in becoming conscious citizens
• Even if we cannot offer time to any environment related project, we can always donate and ensure our voice is heard

About Making The Difference

Established in 2015, Making The Difference established in 2015 founded by Mr. Deepak Vishwakarma is an NGO formed with an aim to serve the needy. It was formed with an aim to serve the underprivileged through programs revolving around environment sustainability, free-for-all open schools, hosting menstrual health awareness workshops, ration distribution to economically weaker sections and more. The primary focus of MTD has been on Sustainable Development. Their mission lies in providing the youth with education, proper nutrition and guidance and plant more and more trees in order to live fulfilling lives. However, after the impact of COVID-19, they have also brought to attention various causes such as climate change, poverty and hunger, unemployment, and illiteracy. They now have a mission to plant 75,000 trees on Mira Road, Thane. This can be easily accomplished if we all join hands and plant one plant each.

Our Environment

Environment – 7 Billion people call it home. Human’s greed has been a great threat to our environment. According to a report, estimated 9 lakh premature deaths will take place by 2040 due to air pollution. Various species of animals & plants have faced extinction & majority are endangered. Lack of proper garbage disposal makes an unhygienic country of ours. Plastic is non-biodegradable & can cause pollution & deaths in our environment. Major problems like climate change, Global warming, Depletion of Ozone layer, food poisioning due to harmful pesticides & fertilizers are continuously growing.

If not you know, then who? If not now, then when?

Help Them To Save Nature

Project Shoonya : The essence of this project lies in working at a grass-root level with the public and local governing bodies, and making proper waste management happen, one household at a time. Through community mobilization, they aim to replace the huge landfills and dumping grounds with greener and cleaner recycling grounds, instill a sense of waste management in all residents, and finally, prevent any further waste contamination and pollution from happening. Here’s how your donations would help.

  • Sponsor a public awareness session for the general public on segregation of waste and proper waste disposal.
  • Fund our cost of running recycling and segregation centres.
  • Employee an underprivileged person to our Project.
  • Provide the staff with safety kits containing PPE kits, gloves, masks, etc.

We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.

Enough! It’s us who need to take step to stop this. But, What do you want to change?

Making the difference has recognised these issues and are coming up with good alternatives. Following RRR strategy for sustainability – reduce, reuse, recycle. Using cloth bag, public transport, proper waste disposal & planting more trees can be followed easily by us in our day to day lives. Let’s get together & encourage everyone to protect Mother nature. With a target to plant 75000 plants on Mira road in Mumbai, we cannot do it all alone. Our small steps will make a big difference. Lack of oxygen due to pollution can lead to numerous medical problems which we need to avoid. Like good income gives good education, good environment gives good health. It’s our responsibility to take initiative. Come forward & Contribute your bit now. Let’s gift a healthy & sustainable environment to our future generations.

Will you help us achieve this target?

Why Do Dogs Run Away?

Why Do Dogs Run Away?

CT medical help with donate button

Are you a dog owner who is concerned about your dog running away? It is, indeed, a valid concern.

You’re most likely doing all in your power to keep them safe and happy. But, are you still wondering, ‘why does my dog run away from me?’ They may just become distracted, puzzled, or fearful of a particular situation.

You may encounter this problem when you adopt a new dog or pup. Having them run away will undoubtedly make you nervous. Is there anything you can do to help? Sure.

Understanding that point of view, here’s an article about why your dog runs away and how to avoid it.

Why Do Dogs Run Away?
Why Run Away?

It's their time to mate or your dog is afraid of something

During the height of their heat, they feel compelled to mate with the opposite sex.

In this scenario, they wait until they can rush out to find their mate. Be prepared if you have other dogs in your neighborhood or strays nearby. That is when they wait to run away from home and pounce on the other dogs to mate. It is natural, but certainly something you should look into.

The question of ‘why do dogs run away from home?’ is a familiar one. Fear is the most common reason for dogs to flee. It may be fireworks or anything else that makes them afraid. Thunderstorms affect dogs adversely too. In such situations, your pet may become disoriented and get lost.

Even if you have well-trained your pet, they are prone to flee if they are afraid. Examine the surroundings to determine what spooked them, whether specific sound, item, or person

"Dogs don't make our whole lives, but they make our lives whole." - Roger Caras

Why Do Dogs Run Away?
What Should He Choose?

They have anxiety, They don't get to go out often or it is simply frustrated

Some dogs are born anxious, while others develop it later in life. You could also notice them acting strangely, such as whimpering in the middle of the night.

If you’re wondering, “why does my dog keeps running away” it might be due to separation anxiety. If they were separated from their mother or brood when they were much older than newborn pups, they might desire to flee due to separation anxiety.

Have you ever thought that you might not be walking your dog enough? Your pet may like snuggling on his bed, but he prefers to go for walks too. It is an important aspect of their routine that you should not neglect.

They will have the temptation to run out and have fun if you don’t take them out frequently enough.

Your dog may get annoyed, anxious, or frustrated. Why? That might be because you leave them alone too frequently, tether them, or simply do not love them enough.

At the end of the day, they’re just like kids. They want your full attention, and if you don’t provide it to them, they may try to flee

How to Choose a Right Dog

How to Choose a Right Dog

Finally, you are getting a dog!

You are finally planning to buy or adopt a dog. That is a huge step. But, how do you make sure that you are choosing the right one? Here are four things you should think about before buying ot adopting a dog.

How to Choose a Right Dog
Dogs Everywhere

I thought she was doing her bit for the animals by being vegan, but it stumbled upon her one day that not participating in cruelty is not enough; She needed to do more. During the #lockdown, she got time to introspect. She decided to shut down her business, and that’s when she applied to Peepal Farm – an animal rescue organization in Himachal Pradesh, to work for animals’ full time.

  1. Knowing the dog’s energy level is very important. This will determine the amount of exercise you need to give the dog and in turn the amount of time you need to invest in him. A high energy dog will require at least an hour of running around or long walks . Whereas a mellow dog will do maybe with half hour of exercise.

2. The need of attention of every dog differs. A dog who stays around you and keeps nudging you will need you to engage with them often. A more independent dog who is content and sits peacefully will not need constant attention from you.

How to Choose a Right Dog
Someone Furr Everyone

3. The age of the dog is also very important. Raising a puppy is a lot of fun, but will need a lot of patience, training, toys and many more. While a mature dog will need alesser amount of training and time.

4. And if Veterinary bills are a consideration, then mixed breed dogs fit the bill better as they have lesser health issues. A pure pedigree dog can require more maintenance.

And in case you do have some money to spare then we suggest you adopt a Special needs dog which we assure you will be far more rewarding and fulfilling. They can have issues such as limited mobility or some allergy but still have a good quality of life and be very loving.

Story of Summer – The Doggy

Summer was born on streets. Some time ago, she was in a serious accident. She was severely injured. Her leg had many injuries and the bone was broken. She survived the accident but was in a very serious condition.

Ray of Hope

Summer was brought to Peepal Farm, Dharmashala by their volunteers. The treatment was immediately started. She was so scared in the beginning days that she couldn’t come outside to meet others. She lost one leg but slowly she got recovered and got used to the friendly environment of Peepal Farm. She lived in a cozy kennel and made many friends after a few days. She used to jump around and play in nearby area so people used to call her “Rabbit”. That’s how she started living a happy life.

After getting cured and spending amazing time at Peepal Farm, a lovely family decided to adopt Summer. Satyam Singh from Ghaziabad adopted the jumping rabbit of Peepal Farm. She found the family that truly loves her and cares about her. She is happy, healthy and as always jumping!

Story of Saloni Sakaria

Born and brought up in Mumbai, she was a part of an affluent Jain family. In the initial years of my career, she was a fashion designer and ran her clothing label, named The Third Floor Clothing’. Having a reasonably successful career, she showcased my clothing line at #Lakme Fashion Week and #Amazon India Fashion Week in the first six months of starting my label.

With her career taking its road at the back of my mind, she was always stuck with notions of eventually marrying and settling down. Her aim through this time was always to see herself as a businesswoman, but life had its plans for her.

- Immanuel Kant

Choosing to dedicate her work to animals has been the most empowering decision of her life so far. Saloni soon understood that rescuing hurt animals from the streets is just curing the symptoms. The real problem that is often not addressed is people’s perspective and attitude towards animals.

This is precisely what she is aiming to work towards – animal welfare and awareness. Saloni wants to be part of making this world a better place even for animals, and there’s no looking back from this one.

Ashay Bhave – Making Shoes from Recycled Plastic

Ashay Bhave is taking positive steps to make way for a greener future

Recycled Shoes
Ashay Bhave With His Creation

With global brands and next-gen designers making revolutionary materials from mushrooms, pineapple fibres and recycled rubber, the footwear industry is getting a sustainable spin too. Footwear labels like Neeman’s introduced ReLive Knits, a sneaker made from 100% recycled PET bottles, Woodland launched a range of biodegradable footwear and Paadkus designs shoes made from scrap tyres.

Now, there’s a fresh label on the block doing its bit to keep the landfills and ocean clean–Thaely. Named after the Hindi term for a plastic bag to draw the audience’s attention to the mounting plastic pollution, Thaely is a sustainable sneaker brand that makes shoes from discarded plastic. And you’d be surprised to know that its brainchild is a 22-year-old, Ashay Bhaave.

Ashay Bhave
Meet Ashay Bhave

Born in Mumbai, and currently residing in Dubai, Ashay has always wanted to better the world and contribute to environmental welfare. Spurred by this passion, Ashay introduced an innovative solution that paved the way for a greener fashion industry. Moving closer to its goal of cutting down the plastic globally, Thaely has recycled about 36,000 plastic bags and 25,000 plastic bottles since it started production at the beginning of this year. In a chat with the young CEO and creative director, we find out more about the label.

The Idea

ASHAY BHAVE – I started Thaely after I heard about the single-use plastic ban in India. Though the law was widely celebrated, it was never imposed in most areas. I also found out that on an average 5 trillion plastic bags are consumed each year worldwide, and 14% of plastic bags make up the biggest portion of all marine plastic waste. Despite this, there was almost no real way of entirely recycling plastic bags and I was motivated to find a solution to this problem through ThaelyTex—a fabric that looks and feels like leather but is made entirely out of waste plastic bags.

Recycled Shoes
The Shoes

The Material

ASHAY BHAVE – We use 10 plastic bags and 12 plastic bottles for one pair of Thaely Y2K Pros. We use ThaelyTex for the upper (part of a boot or shoe above the sole) and rPET made from plastic bottles for the upper and shoelaces, recycled rubber for the sole, and vegan glue. The shoe box is plantable—it’s made from recycled paper, dyed with waste coffee grounds and has basil seeds embedded in it.

The Main Model

The Process

ASHAY BHAVE – The production process starts with the collection, segregation and sanitation of waste plastic bags. These plastic bags are processed into ThaelyTex, which is then shipped to our shoe factory where it is assembled with other components to make the final shoe. The production process does not need any additional chemicals nor does it release any toxic chemicals as a by-product.

Recycled Shoes
The Procedure

ASHAY BHAVE – The biggest challenge we faced was right at the first step of acquiring the plastic bags. To my surprise, I found one online when I received a message on LinkedIn from TrioTap Technologies, a waste management plant in Gurgaon. They were not only interested in collecting waste plastic bags but were also willing to process it into ThaelyTex.

What’s next for Thaely?

ASHAY BHAVE – We have a few more colours coming up and a high-top version is being prototyped. Also, we plan to launch apparel soon.

Being Friends With Cats

Being Friends with Stray Cats

Gaining the Trust of a Stray Cat

If a stray cat visits your home, you may find yourself wanting to pet him like a house cat. But sometimes, stray cats can be very skittish and reluctant to trust you. How do you get a stray cat to come to you? Getting a cat to like you involves a lot of patience, compassion, and a calm, quiet demeanor when you’re around the kitty.

Understand the Difference Between a Feral Cat and a Stray Cat

First, understand the difference between a stray cat and a feral cat. A feral cat was born wild and never knew a human. These kitties will act terrified of you and may never come close, no matter what you do.

A stray cat, on the other hand, is a cat that once knew human companionship. Stray cats may be timid at first but will warm up over time. If your stray cat simply won’t come near you no matter how long you wait, it’s not your fault. He may simply be feral. Rest assured, your feral cat will still truly appreciate it if you feed him and give him an outdoor shelter, even if he doesn’t outwardly show it.

Being Friends With Cats
Black Cats Are Cute Too

The Fastest Way to a Stray Cat's Heart Is Through Her Stomach

Stray cats are often hungry cats, so the best first move is to feed the kitty and provide lots of water. Once the cat learns you’re a source for food, she will visit every day. For some very friendly cats, this is enough to gain their trust. But others need more time.

Start by leaving a strong-smelling cat food, like one with tuna, outside where you’ve seen the cat. Try to put the food out at the same time every day, and watch from a distance to see if she eats it. You may need to watch through a window from inside your home at first.

If cats could talk, they wouldn’t!!

If it’s cold outside, consider keeping the cat’s food and water in a Thermo-Kitty Cafe that keeps the food and water from freezing. If you need something that holds more water, consider the K&H CleanFlow Filtered Water Bowl for Cats, which can come with a 90-ounce reservoir. Make sure you place the bowl in a fully enclosed area to protect it from the elements. When it’s hot in the summer, a Coolin’ Bowl is a good option

Being Friends With Cats
Check Below Your Cars Before Leaving

Give Him a Safe, Comfy Bed

Stray cats can have a hard time when braving the weather and extreme temperatures outdoors. The more stressed a cat is, the less likely he will engage with you in any meaningful way.

If you can, leave your garage door or another place with a roof slightly open, so your stray cat can go inside when it’s raining or the temperatures are extreme. If it’s cold, consider a heated Thermo Outdoor Kitty House or the Thermo Outdoor Multi-Kitty A-Frame. Both are water-resistant for the outdoors, and the heated versions come with pet-safe heating pads. Another option is the Thermo Mod Kitty Shelter, which is also waterproof and comes with a heated pad that covers half the floor. As the weather warms up, the heated pads can be removed (so the cat doesn’t overheat) and replaced with a comfy cushion.

Cats choose us, we don't own them. - Kristin Cast

Stay Very Still When She Eats

After your cat is accustomed to finding the food you leave for her, try staying outside when you leave the food, but at a distance.1 Don’t try to approach her when she appears; instead, stay very still. Remember that a cat’s body language is different than yours. Don’t stare directly into her eyes for long periods of time. If you do catch her gaze, blink slowly. Don’t act overly interested in her, and she will trust you more.

Being Friends With Cats
Help A Stray Cat

Let the Stray Cat Make the First Move

Let your stray cat approach you first. This may take days or even weeks. Don’t try to walk up and pet him. Give him a chance to rub against your leg cautiously. Speak soothingly to him. You can try extending your hand slowly and gently, but don’t try to pet him. Let him approach and sniff your hand. He may sniff your hand and then rub it with his head, which is an invitation for a gentle pet.

Remember, a stray cat that trusts you one day may not have the same level of trust the next.2 Sometimes his outdoor adventures will leave him stressed and a little less friendly. Don’t be discouraged if you sometimes feel like you’ve regressed. With time and patience, your stray cat will come to trust you and want pets consistently. You might even start giving him access to your home from time to time if your bond has grown. At some point, you may want to take him to the vet for a checkup and vaccinations.

It’s a beautiful thing when you finally gain the trust of a stray cat. Some cats have had a hard time in life, and, for whatever reason, they end up homeless. By winning a stray cat’s trust and providing some essentials for him, you could make a huge impact on his life. And you’ll gain a lovable feline companion as well.

Pets in Diwali

How to Take Care of Your Pets in Diwali

• Keep the pets restricted inside a room

Avoid the pets coming with direct contact with the crackers and other fireworks and let them stay in an area enclosed. Shut down all the doors and windows of the room so that the loud noise cannot reach their ears as these sounds create anxiety in pets. The diyas and other lightning objects should be kept away from pets as they don’t understand that this may harm them.

Pets in Diwali
Pets In DIwali

• Cover the ears of pets with earmuffs

Try to keep your pet’s ears covered with earmuffs or any soft piece of cloth to avoid the noise created by fireworks. The sound becomes unbearable and hazardous for dogs as their hearing sense is 7 times that of humans so the volume affects them the most. Play soothing music in their surroundings so that they get distracted from outside noise.

• Keep your pets out of reach from sweets of Diwali

Stop your pet from eating a lot of sweets as eating too much may affect their digestive system. The sweets also may not suit their digestion because of quality issues. During Diwali don’t forget to feed your dogs with their regular food and don’t feed them with whatever you eat.

• Maintain cleanliness by removing all burnt crackers and chemicals associated with it

During Diwali, a lot of chemical mixed items are used like crackers, pooja materials, rangoli colours and other toxic elements. Make sure that after the celebration everything is removed and the house is cleaned as chemicals are harmful to pets and they may by mistake lick those items with chemicals or end up consuming them. Also, keep in mind electrical connections and remove circuits to prevent your pet from getting electrocuted.

• Keep your pets hydrated

Water is a very essential need of pets so give them required water to drink in a suitable area. Water will help them in dealing with the anxiety caused by loud noises and fireworks. It is a good suggestion to take your pet to a veterinarian and get an anxiety injection.

Home for Strays

We see stray animals on the road and around us. They are in many forms. We see bulls as they are useless in human society as tractors replaced the work in fields. We see donkeys moving around as they also do not have anyway useful.  The same way comes to the pigs, dogs, etc. Cow become stray after they do not give milk which is useful for human society. So Human being looks for benefit-driven animals and has no responsibility toward stray animals. Even older people, which not earn are treated as useless in some homes as they give not any way useful for their children.

Roaming Street Animals

The solution sought by thinkers of modern society is “finish them”. The logic is stray dogs bite us. Stray bulls and donkeys cause a lot of problems. The more views put forward is cut them and create meat which will earn some income.  Are we thinking & becoming more and more self-centered?

The Vedic theory always put-up logic of creating peace and harmony around us and taking responsibility of your family and around us.  Gaushala are run on religious grounds mainly and not on humanity grounds. We take responsibility of animals on which we have full control as pets in homes or useful for us in monetary terms like horses, buffaloes, cows and others. But real persons should take the responsibility of stray animals around us. We can prepare some food for these animals along with regular food and feed them. You will find more happiness and satisfaction then keeping a pet and caring for own satisfaction.

One should never run away if he/she is enthusiastic about travelling may it be solo, a couple one or group travels. One should also never hesitate to make travelling a full time career if he/she is really passionate about the same, want to explore and witness the beauty and magic of our Earth and live like a wanderer. It is truly said that during one’s travelling trip, one should be less focused on the destination and enjoy the journey to the fullest. 1) From where did his love for travel emerged? What is his purpose along the way?

Saroj Sahu’s origin is from Orissa where he was located amongst the wildlife and the natural surroundings. In his childhood, he used to travel via local trains and his school life was also filled with enhancing his desire to travel. He aims to be a constant learner with respective to the surroundings, different types of cultures and traditions while travelling. He goes on with a purpose to learn about various kinds of new people, meet and gain knowledge about them.

2) How does he manage his travel along with making documentaries?

When you have a passion, you do not hesitate in putting whatever hard work and efforts it takes. That’s the story of Saroj Sahu. He considers shooting, filming documentaries and his solo trip videos so extreme fun and an excellent learning experience to enhance the skills along with his travel journeys. He tries to take as many as shots possible i  his free time during travelling. 3) What is his idea about Sustainable Travelling and carbon footprints?

When he actually came across the idea of sustainability while his travels, he realized there is so much unnecessary pollution happening which is unnoticeable for us humans. Biking in Leh Ladakh and spending island time in Andaman, he noticed people littering plastic all over which wasn’t justified at any cost. He says that nature is our and we should carefully use the resources whatever and whenever needed but keeping in mind that we do not have the right to spoil them or cause any kind of harm. He explains this with examples revolving around giving food to the fishes while fishing and using woods obtained from trees to a limited and required extent. One should wisely think about the future generations and their needs as well. Use as much as less carbon in vehicles as possible via using bicycles and on foot methods. Start with changing and mending your ways and you shall lead to changing the world around.

4) Why does he think people should follow this idea and promote it? How can we make people aware and contribute in the same?

Sustainable development is not a thing which has arrived now, but it’s a thing which is being followed from a long time especially in Indian villages. There’s so much to learn from our forefathers’ deeds. Nowadays, social media has the power to spread the idea of this noble cause. According to him, even if people has the desire to contribute in this regard, they are unfamiliar with the required platform and ways to contribute in this. Do not wait for anybody else to join you, be selfish and start with yourself. Take a step forward as he did because he was genuinely focused and cared for his environment. Consider this very seriously and contribute your bit for the welfare of our beloved nature.

5) How does he actually practice this concept while travelling?

There aren’t any fixed rules for the same. First of all, he takes care of the carbon footprints. According to the travel ranges, he uses bicycle and local transport to travel from one place to another. He always carries an extra bag with himself for non-biodegradable wrappers of chocolate, maggi etc in hill stations to avoid throwing at random places and littering the place. He believes in separating out the dry and wet waste. He says that wherever we go, it is our duty to maintain the hygiene of the particular place.

6) Can anyone and everyone follow sustainability?

It is not at all a rocket science. It is quite simple and a culmination of small pratices. Avoid littering the place with unnecessary garbage. Help the local businesses especially which are run by women in the areas. People travel for happiness, peace, learnings while coming out of their comfort zones, so why to spoil the nature and hygiene of the place. People are so much lost in their the comforts of their luxurious life that they are behaving inhumanely with the nature. Whereas on the other hand, nature lovers like him are the people who redefine the meaning of sustainability in today’s era. He also narrates a beautiful story of respect which is given to snakes in villages. People in villages believe that they themselves are guests and the owner of the habitat is the snake. Therefore, the snakes are not at all killed by the villagers but are separated a bit from their homes into the jungles. If schools take the initiatives to teach the children about the concept and importance of sustainability, then only it will come naturally to the individuals and they’ll take interests in the same from childhood itself. He himself was born and brought up in the place surrounded by wildlife, plants and trees, therefore the spirit of sustainability was instilled in him from the beginning of his journey in life.

7) What are the challenges and obstacles that come in the way of his solo travelling, hiking, camping etc. especially adhering to the formula of sustainability?

He made this idea very clear throughout that he always travels to learn and explore new things. Initially, when one travels, problems related to language and adapting to the people’s culture and traditions might emerge but subsequently as one manages to spend time there and be friends with the people, the job is quite easier then. It takes time to understand and mix with them, but the wait is worth it. People take time to trust the strangers comparing constantly with their past experiences, but in often times, they treat us well with good food and place to live in. He says that we go to other person’s place and use their resources. therefore it is our duty to not spoil them and use them wisely. Eventually, everything takes shape.

8) How he considers the opportunity of travelling as a full time career?

If one wants to take travelling as a full time career. it comes with its own pros and cons. If one wants to be on road all the time, it do takes a lot of compromises. It is not right to follow somebody else but doing it according to your lifestyle and interests do the job. If one is enjoying to the fullest via travelling and actually wants to make it a career, go ahead without any doubts. Money does not matter at all. At the end of the day, what matters is one’s passion and zeal to do.

9) What advice and suggestions would he like to give based on following the eco-friendly route in order to enhance sustainability?

As a human being, if we really want to contribute our bit towards the environment and leave good and quality amount of resources for our future generations, sustainability is the only option. By the way, it is not a choice, not an option but a mandatory practice to be followed. Respect the nature, don’t think about yourself alone but think about the environment. Read daily what the youngsters are doing in terms of cleaning the waste and inspire more people in this regard. He also talked about the culture of planting a tree after the wedding in villages. Encourage people to plant more trees while will increase the oxygen levels as well. Small things matter so much. Back of the mind, people know these things but laziness takes over them. Therefore, eliminating the wrong practices, they need to be self awared and check upon themselves.

1) What's the best memory in your travelling so far? Which place is your most favourite destination?

Every travel memory is special to him because he learns a variety of new things. His perspective of sustainability of environment took shape when he was on an island in Andaman.

2) Which is the main critical situational problem he faced while travelling?

While he was alone on the islands of Andaman, he observed plastic littered all over the place. And in the next 20 years, the groundwater levels will decline probably. The soil is polluted badly, affecting agriculture and leading to non survival of the species there.

3) Especially for minimalistic and eco-friendly travel, What are the things you pack?

Accordingly, he depends on the local markets and materials available. The availability of materials in local villages do the thing for him. Instead of everytime buying the plastic water bottle, he carries a water bottle with himself. Sometimes, This proves to be economical for both and he plans for different travels accordingly.

4) What are the sources he use to choose the destinations?

He believes that instead of him choosing the destination, it’s the reverse. The destination chooses him. Nowadays, he spends most of his time in Chattisgarh understanding the agricultural methods followed there. In short, he travels to learn something new everytime on which he focusses the most based on learning the languages, traditions and cultures of the place.

5) Share some tips and suggestions for people who are relatable with you for sustainable eco-friendly travel?

Instead of going to the well known destinations, choose your own new destination. It’s ok if very less people go there, look for the diversity and gather learnings.

Saroj Sahu is a Selfish Person. Yes, You read this right! He is selfish in desire to make himself work for the environment. He himself chooses to be humble and eco-friendly. Even living the urban lifestyle, he is dedicated and find ways to go sustainable and reduce carbon footprints. He avoids taking cabs and cycle most of the time. He went all the way from Delhi to Odisha by solo cycling which is 1402 km and it took him 8 days for the same which is remarkable. May be he can’t change everybody but he starts with himself. He enjoys this at the same time, he sees the world taking appropriate measures due to his love for mother nature.  People should follow his steps, get inspired and serve the environment. Let’s all come together and give our bit to make sure the welfare of the mother nature as:-

There is an urgent need for plastic to be eradicated from our surroundings for it destroys the nature, harms the marine life and life on land and pollutes our environment. Plastic being degradable remains in the nature, and if consumed by stray animals is very hazardous for their health or can even cause their death. Permanent plastic removal is very crucial for the uncountable hazards it carries along such as its toxic effect on human health, spoilage of our groundwater, poisoning the balanced food chain leading to its uneven breakage, threatening the wildlife and toxic chemical additives to food and drinks.

Plastic Pollution

Plastic Pollution is caused by the accumulation of all the plastic waste in the environment. Pollution caused by plastic in the environment is utmost hazardous for both life on land and water. The marine litter causes interference in the survival of marine life such as fishing nets that are continuously used to trap wildlife and waste. The intake and ingestion of plastic by  animals is dangerous beyond limits. The plastic pollution in oceans specifically can also emerge mainly from household waste which is not processed adequately. This waste which comes from several households is poorly recycled, dumped in landfills, abandoned in nature which further is carried away by the winds, pushed by rains into sewers also blocking and effecting the drainage system. This waste end up being poured into streams, rivers and finally reaching and polluting the oceans. Various natural disasters are caused by this plastic pollution only. All in all, Plastic pollution have harmful effects on all the aspects including wildlife, land, rivers, natural habitat and human life too.

Only we humans make the waste that nature can’t digest                                                                                                                                         -Charles Moore

Plastic is that polymer which was scattered by humans all over the environment. Humans are rapidly using more and more plastic materials may it be plastic polythenes, containers, boxes, cups or vending packaging, plastic was widely used everywhere. Despite of many state governments banning the use of plastic, still humans were constantly irresponsible in the usage of plastic leading to natural spoilage of the constituents of environmental factors.

Tit for Tat

It is said that everything has a tit for tat. Humans wrapped nature into plastic by spreading plastic all over, Now it was eventually nature’s turn to give back and show its wrath which came to us humans in terms of COVID-19. Yes, Corona virus is that agent which connects the plastic game between the human and the environment.

Nature wrapped humans in plastic in the form of PPE (Personal protective equipment) kits. PPE, including goggles, face shields, masks, gloves, gowns, head and shoe covers are all made up of plastic. These add to the plastic waste in the environment which is destructive in every way.

If you do not focus on solutions, you will be just lost in the problems                                                                                                           -Sadhguru

The 5R Formula

If one genuinely focuses all of his/her attention and energy in generating solutions to the plastic hazard in our country, then by all means we can together eradicate this menace from its roots. Some of the solutions that should be proposed further includes:-

  • 1) Eco-friendly materials such as reusable bags instead of plastic one.
  • 2) The best thing you can do is to use and carry a reusable metal bottle instead of plastic bottle which used once, go straight into the trash.
  • 3) Follow the “5-R” Formula to revolutionize the plastic problem which goes by Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Regenerate and Recover.
  • 4) Making people aware and spreading the word about this problem is another step which can’t be ignored at any cost.
  • 5) Choosing products which come with less plastic packaging and making valuable green choices are one of the granted methods which lead to a lot of difference.
