Air Pollution – Causes, Effects and Actions

Air pollution has become a major concern in today’s day and age and poses health threats to both people and animals. According to the WHO every year an estimated 7 million people fall prey to death due to air pollution while 9 out of 10 people breathe air containing high levels of harmful pollutants. Air pollution can be defined as the presence of harmful chemicals and or substances in the air that cause harm to living beings, the atmosphere, climate, materials etc. It gives rise to a multitude of diseases like heart problems, lung cancer, respiratory diseases etc. in humans that can be fatal in nature. Some of the major pollutants present in air include carbon monoxide, lead, nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide, particulate matter etc. However, in the past few decades, we have become more considerate towards our planet as more and more organisations have sprouted and looking after our atmosphere and the planet has become a household issue.

Crowdfunding-Benefits-Impaac-Foundation-non-profit-platform-AirPollution

Causes Of Air Pollution

Air pollution can sprout from a wide variety of causes something even so minor like using refrigerators, ac’s or perfume sprays as they cause the earth’s protective layer of ozone to become thin or even slowly diminish. Burning of garbage waste releases toxic and harmful chemicals that mix with the air and cause air pollution. India is the land of farms as acres of land are used in this occupation however farmers tend to burn the stubble after harvesting the crops leading to increased levels of air pollution across the country. Vehicles and transportation in general also release chemicals like carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxide, particulate matter etc. that are extremely harmful for the environment. These are some of the main causes of air pollution in the environment.

Crowdfunding-Benefits-Impaac-Foundation-non-profit-platform-AirPollution

Effects Of Air Pollution

Air pollution can cause long term effects on people such as heart problems, asthma, lung cancer and respiratory diseases like emphysema. Scientists have also suspected that exposure of expecting mothers to air pollution can also cause birth defects in the child. Air pollution kills up to 7 million people each year, a number enough to scare us of the pollutant’s harmful nature. These pollutants also lead to smog that causes low visibility and prevents sunlight from entering the earth’s atmosphere. The ozone layer has diminished from some parts of the world that leads to harmful effects on the environment, people and animals. It also harms metals, marble etc. and a leading example of that is the Taj Mahal which is slowly transforming its colour from white to yellow.

Actions On Air Pollution

We can still save the environment and the air blanket by being a little conscious of our actions and practising sustainability in our everyday lives. Some ways in which we can achieve this is:
• Avoid using cars for small distances and turn to cycling or use public transportation whenever possible.
• Recycle and reuse so that you generate less waste and it doesn’t end up polluting the air by burning.
• Use fans instead of ac’s so that chlorofluorocarbons (Cfc’s) are not released in the air and end up polluting it.
• Avoid bursting crackers as it releases a lot of chemicals and causes trouble to both humans and animals.
• Practise afforestation as it cleanses the air of its harmful chemicals.

Plastic Ban – A Much Needed Decision

Why was plastic banned?

The recent long pending decision of plastic ban was finally put in action, many applauded this step while many are struggling to cope up with the repercussions. The ministry of forest, environment and climate change banned single-use plastic from July 1 that was a huge hit to roadside vendors and big shopkeepers alike. The manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of single-use plastic that is plastic that is used once and then discarded. After exiting our homes all single-use plastics would either be burned, end up in landfills or in oceans and cause pollution, plastic being one of the leading polluting causes all across the globe. Some items as stated by the ministry that have been banned are plastic cups and plates, cutlery, ice cream sticks, candy sticks, straws, wrapping and polystyrene. Although many people are facing problems due to the plastic ban but this sends us on a quest to hunt for green alternatives that are sturdy and can be used instead of plastic in our everyday lives.

Crowdfunding-Benefits-Impaac-Foundation-non-profit-platform-ocean-Pollution-Plastic-Ban

The Repercussions

The suddenness of the plastic ban was a huge blow to many companies and shopkeepers as they are frantically trying to keep up with the alternate solutions of plastic. Plastic was cheaper and easier to access as shopkeepers would sometimes even get it for free but the new alternatives would be harder to find and buy. The government has also set up penalties and punishment for anyone using, importing, or selling single-use plastic. On the other hand, this would prove to be a huge revolution in the world as we can make an effort to curb pollution in the oceans and prevent such a toxic and harmful component to end up in landfills. The ban of plastic has given rise to an ever-increasing demand of paper bags as it is the only viable alternative to plastic as of now, companies are also trying to figure out and search other alternatives that is cost effective and strong enough like a plastic bag.

Crowdfunding-Benefits-Impaac-Foundation-non-profit-platform-ocean-Pollution-Plastic-Ban

How are we going to cope up with the loss of plastic?

We as the common people should take care that we carry our own cloth bags whenever we go out so that we can carry all essentials in it, it is both reusable and sturdy. Half of the problem would be solved when we carry our own bags to the market so that reduces the demand for more paper bags as that would essentially mean cutting down more trees to produce the paper. Instead of paper bags we should strive to find more affordable and sturdy options to replace plastic that is sustainable to the environment.

Popatbhai – Messiah for the poor

In today’s world it is very difficult to sustain even one’s own lifestyle and we end with a lot of problems and troubles of our own and so we rarely do anything for the planet and its people. However, there are some who keep the happiness and satisfaction of the people around greater than their own. One of the rare people with a heart of gold is Mr. Rajni Kataria, the founder of Popatbhai Foundation that helps people from various backgrounds get back on track in their life and reunite them with their loved ones. This non-profit organization was found in 2019 in Surat, Gujrat. They work for a wide variety of causes ranging from orphanage support, child rights, women empowerment, education support, old age support, calamity relief, medical support, care of birds and animals, events in Gujrat etc. He along with his dedicated team are always on the move trying to help as many people as possible and bring a positive impact in their lives.

He and his team have impacted many lives until now and will continue to do so for the next many years and continue impacting lives. The people he has rescued are ever so thankful to him and his team for the continuous monitoring and care they receive by the foundation until they are good to go on in life. While treating and taking care of the beggars in Surat, they come across many infections and germs that are present on the beggar’s body due to the long-time of him\her remaining unclean. The team proceeds to carefully disinfect the person and then take them for hygiene procedures like cutting his nails and hair and giving him new clothes to wear. Many a times the people can become mentally ill due to such harsh conditions, as they start attacking the team however, instead of letting their morale down they get more motivated to help them and bring them back on their feet.

NGO crowdfunding social platform Impaac Foundation help support donate Popatbhai

Although there are many such incidents that were worth mentioning this one specially caught the eyes of many, the video surfaced on 22 february 2022 and managed to grab a lot of attention from across India. The video showed the transformation of two begging uncles from the streets of Ahmedabad who were in terrible condition and one of their hands were wrapped in a plastic bag due to some kind of accident. The uncles were not ready to trust Popatbhai and started behaving recklessness even screaming on the team.  After much persuasion the team was finally able to take them to the shelter wherein, they were given a haircut and a bath and were also treated of the wounds present on their body. The uncles were then accepted into the foundation where they could live a peaceful life ahead.

This video gained 15 million views and Popatbhai managed to make people aware of the fact that whenever we decide to give something to any beggar, we should not provide them with money but instead with basic necessities and if possible, admit them in a shelter. The two uncles had about 10,000 rs in total but were still living on the street with no food or water resources.

Laika – The Space Dog

Laika was one of the first living organisms to go on a space mission but it turned out to be a one-way orbit. After her death she was praised by the citizens for her sacrifice for the country and statues and memorials were made to remember her. It is said that she was sent to space with poisoned food and oxygen viable for only 7 days even though the space mission was of 10 days. The docile Laika met a painless death in space in a small compressed compartment.

Why Laika

Laika was a stray dog one of the major reasons to send her to space as she had no one behind her, another reason was the fact that she was a female who would take up less space on the space ship which was already very cramped. Female dogs were proven to be very docile that would be efficient in her management to be far better by the scientists.

There were many dogs alongside Laika who were picked up by the space department and everyone was subject to strict procedures to determine who was the fittest among them all. They were made to live in cooped pressurized compartments for days, pelvic devices were fitted to the dogs but they avoided using it by retaining their bodily wastes even after being given laxatives. Many dogs could not survive however some adapted leading to Laika being chosen as the first dog cosmonaut.

The Space Mission

1950’s to 60’s was a time when humans were still debating on how to explore space and send humans to space with appropriate safety precautions. Animals were increasingly used by the soviets to test their inventions; this was one such mission. Scientists made Sputnik 2 which was shaped like a small capsule that was 4 metres tall and 2 metres wide and it weighed at just about 500 kilograms.

The space shuttle was atomised to provide Laika with food and water and she was attached with a backpack to contain her faeces. The shuttle was also equipped with a camera to monitor Laika and her movements.  It was finally launched in 3rd November 1957. Her rate rates skyrocketed as the shuttle exited the earth’s atmosphere that denoted her extreme stress and fear.

The Dreadful Outcome

The space orbiter was always planned to be a one-way mission as Laika won’t be able to survive the re enter into the earth’s atmosphere therefore the scientists had already administered poisoned food to be fed to Laika, however her end was not so simple. After lifting off the earth’s atmosphere the rocket cone separated as planned but a part of it remained attached leading to problems with the thermal control system inside the shuttle. The more time passes, the more I'm sorry about it.                                                                                     One of the scientists assigned to Laika’s program

Truth Evaded

The soviets said that Laika was alive for a about 9 days in the space shuttle and died on the 9th day after being fed with poisoned food through the shuttle’s automated poisoned food to give her a painless death. The true reason behind Laika’s death was finally revealed in 2002 by Dr. Dimitri Malashenkov about how Laika died only in a few hours after launch due to the failed thermal system and heat rising in the space shuttle.

Aftermath

After Laika’s death the space shuttle became a coffin for the poor dog and continued orbiting around earth for the next 5 months before finally blowing up during re entry into the earth’s atmosphere on April 14th 1958. Years after her death she has been aptly still remembered by the people who have dedicated statues, memorials, museums and magazines in her name commemorating her loss. She has also been featured in multiple books and authors have also tried to write it through Laika’s perspective.

“ Are their lives not worth living ?”

Top 10 Women Fighting Against Climate Change

This year’s UN agenda for women’s day is climate change for women and by women. Many couldn’t get how climate change really affected women and so we are here to let you in on how and why climate change affects women and what our women environmentalists are doing to combat this drastic climate change. Women’s vulnerability during climate change can be summed up in three major points- social, economic, and cultural barriers. They seem to have less access to resources and constitute the majority of the world’s poor. They are highly dependent on natural resources and do labour-intensive and time-consuming tasks like subsistence farming, horticulture, poultry, livestock raising, etc.

Even though women have always been represented as the weaker section of the society and deemed incapable to make decisions they contribute heavily to any country’s resources and help in the management of its reins very well. Women have always been very observant and can help in the proper management of resources, the information passed down from their elders also help in their decision-making capabilities. This sums up why and how women can provide solutions to the ever-increasing climate problems. Below we have curated a list of some of the most notable women environmentalists:

Tohfa abandoned rescue mission

Tohfa- The Gift Of A Dog

Impaac started with the idea of creating an impact in our current situations in a positive way. A team of diligent people under the leadership of Mr. Pankaj Dhingra and Miss Nivedika Gupta has paved a long way of struggle for establishing this company. It aims to work for social and environmental causes and helps individuals and pets to grow up in a safe space. Since then we have helped countless organizations in rescuing, tending, and helping the strays get back on their feet. Although we have worked for many missions we still strive to provide a safe house to the munchkins that we encounter daily.

rescue dog mission Impaac

One such encounter was with Tohfa recounts our CEO Nivedika Gupta that she found freezing on the streets of Himachal, being the kind soul she is, she couldn’t leave the pup alone. She tried looking around for its owners but couldn’t find anyone. She found out the pup was starving so she immediately bought it some biscuits and fed it, later contacting a shelter 10kms away to ask for help. The shelter was closed but they agreed to take the puppy in during working days. Nivedika couldn’t shelter the puppy in her own house as she was herself on a trip to the place, so she took her back to her hotel with fear lingering that the authorities might not let the puppy in.

donate for the needy

She took the puppy with her to a restaurant near her hotel to ponder upon the poor pup’s shelter. The owner of the restaurant took interest in the pup and started playing with it, slowly forming an everlasting bond with it. Nivedika was slowly starting to find a mother figure for the pup in the kind restaurant lady, Nivedika approached her regarding the adoption of the puppy. Anita Thakur[ restaurant Lady ] immediately agreed to adopt the puppy and give it a new life thus naming it TOHFA [ the gift of God].

Everyday we come across many Tohfa’s on our way to home while they have nowhere else to go. If you come across any such dog, you can either contact the nearest pet shelter or can give a home to him|her at your abode.

Why Do Dogs Run Away?

Why Do Dogs Run Away?

CT medical help with donate button

Are you a dog owner who is concerned about your dog running away? It is, indeed, a valid concern.

You’re most likely doing all in your power to keep them safe and happy. But, are you still wondering, ‘why does my dog run away from me?’ They may just become distracted, puzzled, or fearful of a particular situation.

You may encounter this problem when you adopt a new dog or pup. Having them run away will undoubtedly make you nervous. Is there anything you can do to help? Sure.

Understanding that point of view, here’s an article about why your dog runs away and how to avoid it.

Why Do Dogs Run Away?
Why Run Away?

It's their time to mate or your dog is afraid of something

During the height of their heat, they feel compelled to mate with the opposite sex.

In this scenario, they wait until they can rush out to find their mate. Be prepared if you have other dogs in your neighborhood or strays nearby. That is when they wait to run away from home and pounce on the other dogs to mate. It is natural, but certainly something you should look into.

The question of ‘why do dogs run away from home?’ is a familiar one. Fear is the most common reason for dogs to flee. It may be fireworks or anything else that makes them afraid. Thunderstorms affect dogs adversely too. In such situations, your pet may become disoriented and get lost.

Even if you have well-trained your pet, they are prone to flee if they are afraid. Examine the surroundings to determine what spooked them, whether specific sound, item, or person

"Dogs don't make our whole lives, but they make our lives whole." - Roger Caras

Why Do Dogs Run Away?
What Should He Choose?

They have anxiety, They don't get to go out often or it is simply frustrated

Some dogs are born anxious, while others develop it later in life. You could also notice them acting strangely, such as whimpering in the middle of the night.

If you’re wondering, “why does my dog keeps running away” it might be due to separation anxiety. If they were separated from their mother or brood when they were much older than newborn pups, they might desire to flee due to separation anxiety.

Have you ever thought that you might not be walking your dog enough? Your pet may like snuggling on his bed, but he prefers to go for walks too. It is an important aspect of their routine that you should not neglect.

They will have the temptation to run out and have fun if you don’t take them out frequently enough.

Your dog may get annoyed, anxious, or frustrated. Why? That might be because you leave them alone too frequently, tether them, or simply do not love them enough.

At the end of the day, they’re just like kids. They want your full attention, and if you don’t provide it to them, they may try to flee

How to Choose a Right Dog

How to Choose a Right Dog

Finally, you are getting a dog!

You are finally planning to buy or adopt a dog. That is a huge step. But, how do you make sure that you are choosing the right one? Here are four things you should think about before buying ot adopting a dog.

How to Choose a Right Dog
Dogs Everywhere

I thought she was doing her bit for the animals by being vegan, but it stumbled upon her one day that not participating in cruelty is not enough; She needed to do more. During the #lockdown, she got time to introspect. She decided to shut down her business, and that’s when she applied to Peepal Farm – an animal rescue organization in Himachal Pradesh, to work for animals’ full time.

  1. Knowing the dog’s energy level is very important. This will determine the amount of exercise you need to give the dog and in turn the amount of time you need to invest in him. A high energy dog will require at least an hour of running around or long walks . Whereas a mellow dog will do maybe with half hour of exercise.

2. The need of attention of every dog differs. A dog who stays around you and keeps nudging you will need you to engage with them often. A more independent dog who is content and sits peacefully will not need constant attention from you.

How to Choose a Right Dog
Someone Furr Everyone

3. The age of the dog is also very important. Raising a puppy is a lot of fun, but will need a lot of patience, training, toys and many more. While a mature dog will need alesser amount of training and time.

4. And if Veterinary bills are a consideration, then mixed breed dogs fit the bill better as they have lesser health issues. A pure pedigree dog can require more maintenance.

And in case you do have some money to spare then we suggest you adopt a Special needs dog which we assure you will be far more rewarding and fulfilling. They can have issues such as limited mobility or some allergy but still have a good quality of life and be very loving.

With her career taking its road at the back of my mind, she was always stuck with notions of eventually marrying and settling down. Her aim through this time was always to see herself as a businesswoman, but life had its plans for her.

Choosing to dedicate her work to animals has been the most empowering decision of her life so far. Saloni soon understood that rescuing hurt animals from the streets is just curing the symptoms. The real problem that is often not addressed is people’s perspective and attitude towards animals.

This is precisely what she is aiming to work towards – animal welfare and awareness. Saloni wants to be part of making this world a better place even for animals, and there’s no looking back from this one.

Ashay Bhave

Ashay Bhave – Making Shoes from Recycled Plastic

Ashay Bhave is taking positive steps to make way for a greener future

Recycled Shoes
Ashay Bhave With His Creation

With global brands and next-gen designers making revolutionary materials from mushrooms, pineapple fibres and recycled rubber, the footwear industry is getting a sustainable spin too. Footwear labels like Neeman’s introduced ReLive Knits, a sneaker made from 100% recycled PET bottles, Woodland launched a range of biodegradable footwear and Paadkus designs shoes made from scrap tyres.

Now, there’s a fresh label on the block doing its bit to keep the landfills and ocean clean–Thaely. Named after the Hindi term for a plastic bag to draw the audience’s attention to the mounting plastic pollution, Thaely is a sustainable sneaker brand that makes shoes from discarded plastic. And you’d be surprised to know that its brainchild is a 22-year-old, Ashay Bhaave.

Ashay Bhave
Meet Ashay Bhave

Born in Mumbai, and currently residing in Dubai, Ashay has always wanted to better the world and contribute to environmental welfare. Spurred by this passion, Ashay introduced an innovative solution that paved the way for a greener fashion industry. Moving closer to its goal of cutting down the plastic globally, Thaely has recycled about 36,000 plastic bags and 25,000 plastic bottles since it started production at the beginning of this year. In a chat with the young CEO and creative director, we find out more about the label.

The Idea

ASHAY BHAVE – I started Thaely after I heard about the single-use plastic ban in India. Though the law was widely celebrated, it was never imposed in most areas. I also found out that on an average 5 trillion plastic bags are consumed each year worldwide, and 14% of plastic bags make up the biggest portion of all marine plastic waste. Despite this, there was almost no real way of entirely recycling plastic bags and I was motivated to find a solution to this problem through ThaelyTex—a fabric that looks and feels like leather but is made entirely out of waste plastic bags.

Recycled Shoes
The Shoes

The Material

ASHAY BHAVE – We use 10 plastic bags and 12 plastic bottles for one pair of Thaely Y2K Pros. We use ThaelyTex for the upper (part of a boot or shoe above the sole) and rPET made from plastic bottles for the upper and shoelaces, recycled rubber for the sole, and vegan glue. The shoe box is plantable—it’s made from recycled paper, dyed with waste coffee grounds and has basil seeds embedded in it.

The Main Model

The Process

ASHAY BHAVE – The production process starts with the collection, segregation and sanitation of waste plastic bags. These plastic bags are processed into ThaelyTex, which is then shipped to our shoe factory where it is assembled with other components to make the final shoe. The production process does not need any additional chemicals nor does it release any toxic chemicals as a by-product.

Recycled Shoes
The Procedure

Challenges

ASHAY BHAVE – The biggest challenge we faced was right at the first step of acquiring the plastic bags. To my surprise, I found one online when I received a message on LinkedIn from TrioTap Technologies, a waste management plant in Gurgaon. They were not only interested in collecting waste plastic bags but were also willing to process it into ThaelyTex.

What’s next for Thaely?

ASHAY BHAVE – We have a few more colours coming up and a high-top version is being prototyped. Also, we plan to launch apparel soon.

INTERNATIONAL MEN’S DAY ACTIVITIES

Donate to a men’s charity

There are lots of charities dedicated to helping men live better lives. The Gay Men’s Health Crisis helps to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS and to help those who are afflicted with HIV improve their health and independence. (Despite the name, it also provides assistance to straight men). The Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation helps to raise awareness of testicular cancer and highlight the importance of self-examination. And the ManKind Initiative is dedicated to helping men escape and recover from domestic violence and abuse.

International Men's Day
A Father And A Son

Learn more about lesser known influential men

Consider picking up a book or watching a movie about an exceptional man whose life and work is still making an impact on the world today. The Black American Experience tells the story of Dr. Daniel Hale Williams, the second man in history (and the first black man) to perform a successful open-heart surgery. The Imitation Game is a moving and dramatic portrait of Alan Turing, the man who invented modern computing and helped end World War Two. Which influential men would you like to learn more about?

Being a male is a matter of birth, but being a man is a matter of choice. - Edwin Cole

Check in with the men in your life

Building positive relationships with men is a lofty goal, but it does have humble beginnings. Check in with your male family members and friends, and see how they’re doing. If we’re happy at home, that’s half the battle.

International Men's Day
Be A Man

WHY WE LOVE INTERNATIONAL MEN’S DAY

It’s a day to celebrate all men

The common line that “every day is International Men’s Day” may bear some truth, but the fact is, that not all men are celebrated to the same degree. International Men’s Day reminds us that there are lots of different kinds of men in the world, and they all deserve a voice.

It’s a day for helping people

Men face a lot of pressure in society—for example, they’re expected to be providers, and to refrain from asking for help or sharing their feelings. International Men’s Day is all about addressing these problems and redefining masculinity.

Men are made to take risks and live passionately on behalf of others. - John Eldrege

It’s All About Gender Equality

Gender equality is always a worthy goal, and International Men’s Day reminds us to make a special effort to strive for positive relations across the entire gender spectrum.

Pets in Diwali

How to Take Care of Your Pets in Diwali

• Keep the pets restricted inside a room

Avoid the pets coming with direct contact with the crackers and other fireworks and let them stay in an area enclosed. Shut down all the doors and windows of the room so that the loud noise cannot reach their ears as these sounds create anxiety in pets. The diyas and other lightning objects should be kept away from pets as they don’t understand that this may harm them.

Pets In DIwali

• Cover the ears of pets with earmuffs

Try to keep your pet’s ears covered with earmuffs or any soft piece of cloth to avoid the noise created by fireworks. The sound becomes unbearable and hazardous for dogs as their hearing sense is 7 times that of humans so the volume affects them the most. Play soothing music in their surroundings so that they get distracted from outside noise.

• Keep your pets out of reach from sweets of Diwali

Stop your pet from eating a lot of sweets as eating too much may affect their digestive system. The sweets also may not suit their digestion because of quality issues. During Diwali don’t forget to feed your dogs with their regular food and don’t feed them with whatever you eat.

• Maintain cleanliness by removing all burnt crackers and chemicals associated with it

During Diwali, a lot of chemical mixed items are used like crackers, pooja materials, rangoli colours and other toxic elements. Make sure that after the celebration everything is removed and the house is cleaned as chemicals are harmful to pets and they may by mistake lick those items with chemicals or end up consuming them. Also, keep in mind electrical connections and remove circuits to prevent your pet from getting electrocuted.

• Keep your pets hydrated

Water is a very essential need of pets so give them required water to drink in a suitable area. Water will help them in dealing with the anxiety caused by loud noises and fireworks. It is a good suggestion to take your pet to a veterinarian and get an anxiety injection.

Home for Strays

We see stray animals on the road and around us. They are in many forms. We see bulls as they are useless in human society as tractors replaced the work in fields. We see donkeys moving around as they also do not have anyway useful.  The same way comes to the pigs, dogs, etc. Cow become stray after they do not give milk which is useful for human society. So Human being looks for benefit-driven animals and has no responsibility toward stray animals. Even older people, which not earn are treated as useless in some homes as they give not any way useful for their children.

Roaming Street Animals

The solution sought by thinkers of modern society is “finish them”. The logic is stray dogs bite us. Stray bulls and donkeys cause a lot of problems. The more views put forward is cut them and create meat which will earn some income.  Are we thinking & becoming more and more self-centered?

The Vedic theory always put-up logic of creating peace and harmony around us and taking responsibility of your family and around us.  Gaushala are run on religious grounds mainly and not on humanity grounds. We take responsibility of animals on which we have full control as pets in homes or useful for us in monetary terms like horses, buffaloes, cows and others. But real persons should take the responsibility of stray animals around us. We can prepare some food for these animals along with regular food and feed them. You will find more happiness and satisfaction then keeping a pet and caring for own satisfaction.
